PC versie van SFIV wordt de standaard tourney edition
by Mind on May.18, 2009, under News
Seth Killian heeft het volgende gezegd:
With Street Fighter IV coming out soon for the PC, how likely is it to see it become the standard for tournaments like EVO? A common platform that could accept both PS3 and XBox 360 arcade sticks would do a lot to bridge the two consoles’ communities. — Rock
Seth: It’s not something I’d considered before directly, but honestly it’s not a bad idea. PCs can seem to have more little issues since the games aren’t quite as “plug and play,” but obviously it’s overall a great platform. One possible advantage of consoles over PC in this regard might be having slightly different specs on the PCs (we would need a lot of them), whereas consoles are uniform.
That seems like a pretty marginal issue (and one that could be addressed), but at the top levels, even minute differences can be a big deal. Even if machine specs don’t result in any playable differences (and they should not), one thing so many years of EVO has taught me is that someone would complain about it anyway
One other potential issue would be console swapping. Given the number of games played at EVO, and the fact that the player-preferred versions tend to be on different consoles, we have to allot time and manpower to swapping out the previous game’s console and swapping in the new one. With consoles, this isn’t fun, but isn’t usually too bad (except for the DreamCast, which loves to break if you move it — we have easily burned out 50 of those things just playing MVC2), but swapping out a console and swapping in a PC would be a lot more work.
Definitely an interesting question to consider, however. Hrm…

Capcom Japan biedt excuses aan
by Mind on May.13, 2009, under News

by Mind on May.05, 2009, under News
Why won’t there be cross play between XBox 360 and PC Street Fighter IV players?
Sven: Supporting crossplay in any game is not trivial by any stretch. It also means a commitment to version locking where if you update one platform, you have to update the other too. And costs of doing so are also not trivial. Additionally, schedule is a factor. If we wanted to go that route, it would have meant an even greater delay in the product arrival.
Will the PC SF4 game have improved net code?
Sven: To the best of my knowledge, it’s identical net code.
Is there any chance of Capcom re-releasing Rival Schools?
Sven: Re-releases are not always as cinchy as they sound, but I do agree [Rival Schools] has some fun potential to reach an audience. The downside is that time has not been as kind to its 3D graphics, and while sprite-based work can still seem interesting and even nostalgic, some of the Rival Schools models just look a little rough. We’ve also got a LOT of fighting options available right now, so we want to be able to focus on each of them without just flooding the market with our entire back catalog. [...]
